India and Japan
In the LOOK EAST Policy the Indian relations with east asian countries have deepened in post Liberalisation and Privatisation period. Due to decision like "Nuclear Test (operation shakti)" the relations with the asian countries got side tracked. By the 123 Nuclear agreement Indian relations with super power USA improved to new dimensions. In sync with such move the relations with Japan became important part of Look East Policy.
Both nations are important planks of "Act East Policy" and New World Order. In order to eastablish 21st centuary as ASIAN CENTURY, Japan and India should form an alliance in the region. Japan being a developed country it has lot to give than take.

Big investments/commitments:
- Japan has invested in the $90 billion Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).
- It is also backing the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train service and has already released the first tranche of 5,500 crore rupees.
- Japan is the third-largest source of FDI ($28.160 billion between 2000 and June 2018) investment into India after Mauritius and Singapore.
- In Dedicated Freight Corridor, a project of close to Rs 50,000 crore of which Japanese assistance has been of about Rs 38,000 crore.
- A "Cool EMS Service" was started, under which Japanese food items are started transported in cool boxes from Japan to India through postal channels.
- In a protectionist world, USA is creating the power vaccum. Japan take the leadership role in many groupings by its strong commitments for multi polar world. This can be seen in CPTPP, Quad security group, Asia-Africa Growth Corridor,International Solar Alliance (ISA).
- Through Malbar exercises, japan agreed to the freedom of navigation in open seas. This helps in countering the narrative of China being the player of the south china sea.
- In recent adoption of verbatim regarding "Indo-Pacific" a great importance of US, India and Japan alliance was made possible.
- By 2 + 2 Dialogue India and Japan already secretary level partnership. It is planned to update to foreign and defence ministerial level.
Challenges:
In the recent development of Chinese influence in the region, Japan also accepted to work with China in OBOR. India is not happy with the role OBOR in POK.
There is a big gap in commerce between India and Japan. Japan had improved its economic ties with China because of shared interests.
A close working of democratic and capitalist countries would push India awaywith in the regions. This would affect the India's stand on NAM's principals.
